Roots - A heart Wrenching Story

For the last 2 weekends we have been watching the video version of Alex Haley's Pulitzer winning novel Roots. The story is about an African boy Kunta Kinte who is kidnapped and brought to America by Slavers in 1750. The story then shows how this boy struggles and how he and his offspring suffer as slaves under their "Massas" (Masters). After seeing the mini-series, I really understood what kind of lives the slaves were forced to live by their white owners. The slave owners considered the blacks as some kind of animals without any kind of emotion. The most heart wrenching scene was when the Massa sells off Kunta Kinte's 15 year daughter to another slave owner when she commits a mistake.

Seeing this movie, I feel, what kind of emotionless people were those slave owners. Its a must watch for all people who are interested in knowing how Slave trade worked and what's the background of the present day African Americans.

This video appeared as a mini series in TV in the late 70's and now its out in DVD.
